San Cisco – La musica matura insieme a noi [Intervista]

“I feel like we’re all equally invested in this record,” dice Jordi. “It’s a feeling we haven’t really had since the first record, when you release a bunch of songs you’ve been playing for two or three years. We’ve really grown with these songs. I still love them the same as the day we wrote them.”

“Between you and me” è il vostro nuovo album. Parla d’amore e di relazioni?

In gran parte sì.

English version:

“Between you and me” is your new album. Does it talk about love and relationships?

For the most part, yes.

Your album sounds like a record with a lot of instruments. Did finding the perfect sound for your songs request a lot of your energies?

It can certainly be very taxing searching for the right instrumentation for a song but it is often one of the more fun parts of songwriting/production. You want to create something that is fits the song and is emotive but also doesn’t get in the way of the story.

I’ve read this album has made you grow a lot. What has changed in your way to play and make music?

I suppose as we grow and mature the music we make tends to sound a bit more refined and more polished. In the early days of writing these songs we were listening to a lot of west coast, Americana and songs which have usually been so much more carefully crafted than we have ever considered which has filtered down to the way we approached the writing of these songs.

“On the line” is the first single of your new album. What has inspired it?

On the line is a song that has been around for quite some time and has taken on so many different forms. As we were choosing songs for the album we thought it would be a good one to have another run at and see if we could make it fit better on the album. So we got together with some local producers and learnt it live and recorded it live to tape which is something we had never done.

Does it talk about the will to be together in spite of everything?

Yeah it talks about the kind of relationship that has had tremendous up’s and down’s but has managed to see through it all due to an unrelenting connection.

I’ve read a very funny story about your second single “Messages”. Does it talk about you and Scarlett’s friendship?

You could say the idea for Messages was inspired by our friendship haha. I had asked Scar if she would like to come around and write some words for the song idea Josh and I had, but she just never responded! In actual fact, Scar is one of my best mates and she is actually great at friendship. The song is more about being taken advantage of by “friends” and identifying when it might be a good time to tap out of the relationship.

Nonsense Question: Still talking about friendship, what is in your opinion the worst thing you can do to a friend?

I think integrity is the most important thing in any relationship. So any actions that lack integrity are probably the worst thing for a friendship.
